The Wiggle Sportiv event in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.
Wow…what a weekend. Cricky, Nobby, Macca, Stuey and Ben all trecked 6 hours on a Friday afternoon on traffic jam filled motorways to arrive in Thirsk ahead of this event.
Friday evening was a relaxed affair, a couple of beers and for Cricky a very creamy prawn pasta, which would have it’s revenge in the morning!
An early rise, that was us not the pasta, and breakfast at 6.58am. We were healthy…porridge and honey with bananas all round! We headed off to Thirsk racecourse for booking in and the start line.
With Ben, Cricky and Nobby attempting the epic 96+ miles and Stuey and Macca doing the standard 56+ miles we all left as a team at 8.30am. It was a very chilly and foggy morning…which soon cleared to leave us with a beautiful sunny morning.
After 25 miles…we were it with this…a sign saying a 25% gradient climb was imminent…the White Horse Bank was looming!!
- Distance: 1.0 mile
- Average gradient: 10%
- Maximum gradient: 25%
- Height gain: 174 m
This was long, tough and incredibly challenging…after which a 16% hill and another 25% gradient hill were completed.
The epic ride turned out to be just that. Long, sunny, rainy, windy…awful conditions on an uber challenging undulating course in some awesome countryside. Ben was a legend, pushing himself hard and Stuey was incredible continually pushing himself into the red!
All arrived back safe and sound. The evening was spent relaxing, refuelling and laughing so much that Rene’s sides nearly burst.
A GREAT TEAM BONDING WEEKEND!!!
